"People have to know what relaxes them,
and not feel guilty about using a piece of time
when it is necessary for them,
or when they do not use it exactly as somebody else would."
~ Edith Schaeffer
When my husband and I first married, we gave each other a gift. We both agreed that we'd not place a sense of obligation or guilt on the other when it came to activities or chores around the house and garden. If one of us wanted to take a nap on the couch or read on the deck, while the other was thoroughly engaged and eager to get the chores done, there was no pressure for the napper or reader to succumb to the wishes of the worker, and visa versa.
Over the years, we've allowed the other the freedom to relax and enjoy the moment when their body or mood required a different rhythm than our own. It's worked beautifully in our home.
Here's wishing you a beautiful day!
Hugs,
Brenda

ReplyDeleteand what a beautiful gift you and Rick have given each other!
I hope you have a beautiful week relaxing and enjoying Him! :)
That is a very nice quote and you and your husband were so mature. I've not yet reached that level... ;>
ReplyDeleteThis is wisdom. Thank you for the reminder that is ok (and right) to live without guilt. I have added you to my subscriptions!
ReplyDeletewe get smarter and more relaxed as we mature...lol!
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to relax when my husband is busy doing something. That is such a great gift to give each other.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that what we cats have been saying all along? Relax without guilt!
ReplyDelete"I don't know about you, but for many years I tended to live according to what I thought were the expectations or standards of other people (even if I only assumed I knew what they wanted from me)."
ReplyDeleteWhat you wrote Brenda is so true - and especially it seems, for women. It seems we tend to analyze and evaluate every thing we do - even when we are simply relaxing.
Thank you so much for your thoughts. I really needed them!!
Hi Brenda!! What a beautiful gift you gave each other!!
ReplyDeleteI just came home from a vacation--a little weary. Hubby called tonight and I apologized for not getting anything accomplished today. He was sweet and said that he was glad that I took a day off. It is wonderful to have that support and not feel guilty--not much anyhow.
