The First Twilight of the Month...

We're sitting here in my wee office at the end of another lovely summer day with pale shimmerings of sunset peeking fading through scattered clouds. No wild and colourful displays tonight. It bids goodnight in a gentle dove grey calm that seems to echo the mood of the whole neighbourhood. Blissful peace... as life settles down after the b-u-s-y of another day. Even the barking of a dog yet unsettled doesn't mar the peace that fills my room, not to mention my heart.

Twilight, for as long as I can remember, has been one of my most favourite times of day... the introvert part of me, ever requiring time and space for solitude and quiet to replenish spent resources, relishes these moments.

That is not to say I do not also find joy in brand new mornings and even the energy of high noon activities that invigorate...on occasion. Oh, but, twilight with its promise of rest and repose is a little like the compass app on my iPhone that must be tilted around the little circle, so that it can get its bearings and correctly point to the True North. So too, my heart calibrates when I sit quietly and let the evening wrap itself around my body and soul, setting my heart towards Home... and Him, the One for whom my heart beats with love.

I look again out my window and the clouds have hints of soft petal pink. Lovely. And so I celebrate August's first twilight.

Sweet shadows of twilight! how calm their repose, While the dewdrops fall soft in the breast of the rose! How blest to the toiler his hour of release When the vesper is heard with its whisper of peace! ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

Dear ones, with hugs and a gentle kiss atop thy heads,

  4. Such a beautiful way you have with words, Brenda! My heart especially resonated with these: "I sit quietly and let the evening wrap itself around my body and soul, setting my heart towards Home... and Him, the One for whom my heart beats with love." Oh yes...my heart beats with love for Him too!!

Thanks for your sweet visit at Thinking About Home this evening. So nice to "talk" with you again!
