Joy, Dishes, Dessert

I found a new-to-me quote that gives another thought on how we can live our lives more beautifully. It's all about doing dishes and dessert:

"If I am incapable of washing dishes joyfully, if I want to finish them quickly so I can go and have dessert, I will be equally incapable of enjoying my dessert.
With the fork in my hand, I will be thinking about what to do next, and the texture and flavor of the dessert, together with the pleasure of eating it, will be lost.  I will always be dragged into the future, never able to live in the present moment." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Wishing you a pleasant day,

  4. Hi Brenda, what a beautiful cake! We seem to think so much alike. It's funny you should mention this because I was just telling someone today about a quote from Alexandra Stoddard where she talks about: "staying in the moment and taking time to notice the rainbows in the soap bubbles as we wash dishes!" I love your post today, it is a very true and beautiful thought. Have a nice evening ahead! Delisa :)

  6. This is (obviously) not just for doing dishes. This is a marvelous reminder, for most every minute of every day.

    We live in the past, and in the future, so much more than in the present. Funny isn't it? How we have to be so mindful, all the time, to cox ourselves to live in the PRESENT...

    How come??????? Would our fast, full, noisy way-of-life, have anything to do with this? Betcha' people of many past ages, didn't have this problem, to the extent which we do.

    And a sad thing, is that..........

    Gentle hugs,
    "O hushed October morning mild,
    Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
    Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,
    Should waste them all.
    The crows above the forest call;
    Tomorrow they may form and go.
    O hushed October morning mild,
    Begin the hours of this day slow.
    Make the day seem to us less brief.
    Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
    Beguile us in the way you know.
    Release one leaf at break of day;
    At noon release another leaf;
    One from our trees, one far away."

  8. Without the benefit of a dishwasher when we move to our smaller, next apartment at the beginning of Nov., it will be back to doing dishes joyfully together, as we did when we first got married! Living in the present and enjoying every moment together and facing new challenges with God's help!
