'This And That' Kind of Day

Here is my day at a glance:

It's been snowing and blowing. Now I want to dust off Christmas movies and other cozy videos like You've Got Mail, Wind in the Willows, Meet Me In St. Louis with Judy Garland, just to name a few.

Making homemade soup for lunch. I started with my own chicken broth and then added: a can of red kidney beans, kernel corn, some grated zucchini, a chopped fresh tomato, 2-3 cups of Clamato juice, and for seasoning, salt, pepper, and cumin. I let it simmer about 30 minutes. It was very tasty, if I do say so myself!

Visiting with my dear 92-year-old father-in-law, who came yesterday to stay with us until the end of the month. This is the man who still races in World Seniors Games, and just a couple of years ago ran at the World Seniors Games in Italy. I pray my hubby takes after him for longevity and good health!!!

Reading my way through these books: Agatha Christie's A Pocketful of Rye, A Cellist in Sarajevo by Steven Galloway, and The Professor's House by Willa Cather.

I just looked out the window -- it's snowing again, which makes it a perfect evening for sitting by the fireplace later tonight.

Until next time,

  1. It's beginning to sound a lot like christmas...your soup sounds lovely...

  2. For some reason I can watch "You've Got Mail" over and over and never get bored! Pass, the popcorn!! ;D

  3. Today was definitely a big pot of soup day! Cumin and I have a close is one of my most favorite spices! :-) I think I may go snuggle under a blanket now and read through some magazines!

    Hugs ~ Angie

  4. What a cozy day you've had. I can't believe the cold weather you've been having already - and SNOW, to boot!
Soup, a fire, movies and books - it all sounds just lovely.

  5. You've got the right idea for spending a cold, snowy day. That soup sounds mighty tasty.

But it's way too soon for cold weather!

  6. Your day sounds much like mine and I did enjoy it. Suppose to warm up and rain tomorrow which will be nice to melt the snow we already have.
Two of my favorite movies are You've Got Mail and Meet Me in St. them.
    Enjoy tomorrow.....:-) Hugs

  7. snow already? noooo! i find that to be a bit depressing, but my attitude shifts the second i think of you've got mail. LOVE that movie--between that and sleepless in seattle, i could watch tom hanks and meg ryan all day long. :)

  8. I was just thinking about you yesterday and planning a visit and then "poof", you came to see me! How fun. One thing I love abour blog friends is the differences in where we all live. It's been a HOT October. 81 degrees with 95% humidity at 6 AM. And we have a fireplace for what??

  9. We must have had the same thing on our minds on both of our posts. Cold outside...sitting by the fire inside. I like your new banner picture. It is so beautiful!!

  10. Oh, I love "You've Got Mail," too. It's like "When Harry Met Sally" for me...I can watch it again and again.

In fact, I just love curling up and watching movies I've seen before.
