Have you ever fiddled away your time to work on a certain project, only to be suddenly faced with the deadline and now you aren't finished?
Oh yes, I've done that too many times to count. And, I hate how that makes me feel... rushed, overwhelmed, and mad at myself.
Today I've posted on my writers' group blog about that very thing trying to uncover why I do that and to share some Tips on how to change.
If you've got your own fiddling issues, I hope you'll take a moment to click and read Fiddler on the Post.

"No e-mail checking, no answering the phone, no coffee refills, no rearranging the paper on the side of your desk."
ReplyDeleteNo coffee refills??? No wonder I don't accomplish much some days!!!
you have so many blogs, I can't keep up with you-is that fiddling around?
ReplyDeleteI tend to be pretty organized and get projects done in a timely manner. I think it is because I work in advertising sales for newspapers and magazines for 25 years and had daily deadlines. There was no room for fiddling...

Oh, fiddle! I knew I was spending too much time arranging papers! ~ We'll have to work on that...
ReplyDeleteThis probably isn't new to anyone reading it, but breaking down tasks into small bites has made a big difference for me.
ReplyDeleteOn those occasions when I'm feeling really lazy, the question that has helped is What's the next action?
Maybe on a given day, the task of "processing all the photos I took at Tabby's Place today" feels like too much work, but the next action, downloading the pictures from the camera card, isn't so daunting.
I sure enjoyed your comments, everyone! Glad to know I'm not totally alone in this world, and I am happy to know that some folks, like you Penny and A Few Good Cats, have mastered the art of getting things done minus the fiddling.
ReplyDeleteHey, I just read about that idea of 'what's the next action' and that has helped me already too. I'll have to keep implementing it so it becomes a habit to ask.
