My Tulips And Daffodils Want to Meet You

" I love tulips better than any other spring flower; they are
the embodiment of alert cheerfulness and tidy grace. . . "
ELIZABETH VON ARNIM

" But I have always thought that these tulips must have had names.
They are red, and orange and red, and red and orange and yellow,
like the ember in a nursery fire of a winter's evening. I remember them. "
NEIL GAIMAN, Coraline

"When at last I took the time to look into the heart of a flower,
it opened up a whole new world; a world where every country walk
would be an adventure, where every garden would become
an enchanted one. "
PRINCESS GRACE OF MONACO

" We come from the earth.
We return to the earth. And in
between we garden. "

" The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth. "
DOROTHY FRANCES GURNEY, Garden Thoughts

" It's a spring fever. That is what the name of it is.
And when you've got it, you want to — oh, you don't
quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes
your heart ache, you want it so! "
MARK TWAIN

If you've read earlier posts, you'll recall that we planted spring bulbs in pots last fall and housed them in the garage over winter. When a few pots of early bloomers started opening in March—long before it was safe to put them outdoors—Rick brought them in and set them by our front window for us to enjoy. Our weather has at last swung into spring mode, and the later blooming pots are now sitting outside in the sunshine. I keep popping out to take another grateful look....as you can imagine, I'm over the moon....jubilant....happy.

To wrap up, I'm sharing a quotation that isn't about flowers, but about keeping the bloom in friendships. If you've got a quirky mind like me, I think you will see that it fits just fine here today. Although my family might laugh to hear me say I don't really enjoy conversations by telephone, it's true, my mind is much more at ease finding things to say when I can write them. In these quiet days of isolation, I've taken up my pen to hand write more notes than I have in a long while (I connect more online in this day and age). My heart giggles as I drop the envelopes in the post, knowing someone is going to hopefully get a lift in spirits when they look in their letter box.

" A friendship can weather most things and thrive in thin soil;
but it needs a little mulch of letters and phone calls and small, silly
presents every so often—just to save it from drying out completely. "
PAM BROWN

On that note, I'm wishing you a beautiful day, dear friends.

Heart Hugs,

  1. Your Spring flowers are such a joy, such glowing colours. Here we are at the end of daffodils and my tulips will be over in a week or so. But what a joy they have been.

    1. They have been a real boon. The pots are blooming now, but in a couple of weeks we should start to see the bulbs planted in the garden come up. I have beautiful reddish purple ones in one bed I'm eager to see.

So glad you've been enjoying your garden this spring.

      Happy day...

  2. Tulips are such a lovely harbinger of hope--we hope the snow will melt soon, we hope spring will be early and warm, we hope for a verdant summer. A favorite flower of mine for sure! On my bucket list is a trip to the Keukenhof springs gardens in the Netherlands:)

    1. By the time I reply to your comment, the snow is now gone and the days are warmer and greening up. Oh yes, a trip to the Keukenhof gardens in the Netherlands would be something spectacular to experience. Hope that dream comes true one day.

      Happy day,

  3. I DO love tulips! They are so beautiful. A man down our road has a wonderful display of them in his front gaden. Later in the year the Dahlias then take over! Our next door neighbours have a pot of them and I look out the bedroom window at them first thing in the morning wishing I'd got some bulbs in a pot!
I love imagining you chortling with glee over sending letters! I've enjoyed sending a few surprises in the post and the recipients being utterly delighted!

  6. Flowers does lift the spirits, especially when winter lingers on and spring seems slow. What a great idea to put the pots inside. Lovely quotes to go along with your flowers, too.

  9. The quote about the embers in the nursery fire of a winter evening .. wow, does that ever go so perfectly with the photo of the orange and yellow tulips just below it. Just like embers!

And the daffodils with the orange ruffles in them ... so pretty! It does my heart good to see these spring flowers. It's still cold here in New Hampshire.

    1. Mrs.T, I was thrilled to find that quote! It was/is a perfect pairing. And what a lovely imagery of the embers.

Hope for the warmth to arrive soon in New Hampshire. Our snow here is finally melted and the garden can finally thaw.

      Wishing you a beautiful Saturday,

  10. So many styles and so many colors! I remember just the good-old red basic tulip, when I was young. But look at the variety now!
Great quotes. You are Queen of the quotes.

  11. I think your sending your friends snail mail is an excellent idea! I'm sure they absolutely loved receiving something from you. I recently sent a quilting friend a small bundle of fabric and a pattern, and we're going to virtually sew a mini-quilt the month of May together to remember this Staying Home time. Beautiful flowers too!
