Monday: Three Little Thoughts

"I can smell autumn dancing in the breeze.
The sweet chill of pumpkin and crisp sunburnt leaves.

~ Author unknown

On this last Monday of October, I write from a happy place. The spot in my soul that longed for its fair share of a true Autumn has been sated. These past few of weeks have been quite lovely. And, we hardly remember we had all that snow in September.

Birds jostle at the feeders, and the chickadees are especially noisy in their pursuits. I saw the Downy Woodpecker earlier. He was busy taking sunflower seeds and stuffing them into a crevice in the wooden railing. I think he's storing for winter. Except, he poked one seed in and then brought it back out, as if to say, that was so tasty I think I'll eat it right now. The Downys are so cute, don't you think?

This past week, I tried my darnedest to write something that I hoped might be awe inspiring for you. Instead, I found myself writing in circles and the end results seemed quite preposterous. So, when I looked at my freshly deleted, empty page and it almost time to post, I decided to rely on the wise words of other writers and went in search of my commonplace notebook.

This morning I found myself copying these particular pieces into my own journal as I felt in need of their reminders. I offer them today with 'fingers crossed' that they will be the spark for your own bit of light as you focus on what you need to be about this week.

BONUS

"Creative work is not a selfish act or
a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It's a
gift to the world and every being in it.
Don't cheat us of your contributions.
Give us what you've got."

~ Steven Pressfield

  2. "Do for one what you wish you could do for everyone." It's the second time in as many days that I've heard that quote. It makes me feel less helpless in a hurting world when I can set my mind to do it for at least one.

  3. Oh, how I love this post, Bren. The beautiful words all speak to me, especially the words of Andy Stanley. I guess that is what I do every time a make a huge pot of soup and always wish I could share it with those who would love a bowl. You have lifted us this morning with your beautiful light ~ you are filling our wells.
    Love and Blessings, my friend.

  4. After a weekend of despair here in my country, I read your quotes with thankfulness for their kindness and hope, especially your first one. It drives me crazy wondering what can I do as only one person and yet the simple truth is that most of us have only a small sphere of influence and we have to start there, with our loved ones and then with those our life touches. It's a start.

The autumn colors are lovely here in Tennessee too and it does help.

    I love the Downeys too!
