Eight. A Little Something for the Mischievous Among Us

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 8.

When I saw that comment on Facebook the other day, it made me Laugh Out Loud. For who among us can deny it? Surely not I -- I cannot tell a lie -- for there does come that wee urge just as soon as the last bit of wrapping paper rolls off the tube to find somebody near to hand and give them a tap-tap-tap atop the head. Mischievous, I call it. But so satisfying an echoing plonk, wouldn't you say?

 Avanti Press Christmas Cards
"Frozen Greetings"
from amazon.com

And, if you live anywhere in the frozen north, you'll surely know all about being tempted, even dared by a playmate, to put your tongue on a frozen metal post because it looks so invitingly like a frosted glass of rootbeer -- only to find to your horror your tongue is now frozen to it like some stuck Popsicle. And there's no way to get free unless you r-i-p it off. Owwy-owwy!

I did that once with the old fashioned metal ice cube trays Mom kept in our freezer. Well, it looked so frosty and inviting, I thought I'd just lick it off like I'd lick an ice cream cone.  As you might imagine or know from intimate personal experience you find out it doesn't work that way. And you only do that once in a lifetime. Lesson learned. I sure do hope that poor doggie in the card above had someone take pity and pour a little hot water over his tongue to loosen it from that post.

Thank You
~ William Church
For your Christmas presents,
I thank you one and all.
For the big ones many thanks,
And fewer for the small.

 Snowball
~ Shel Silverstein
I made myself a snowball,
As perfect as could be,
I thought I’d keep it as a pet,
And let it sleep with me.

I made it some pajamas,
And a pillow for its head,
Then last night it ran away,
But first - it wet the bed!

Sending you wishes for a happy day,

  1. Ah, yes, the empty paper rolls, also good for playing swords! The poems made me chuckle :)

  3. Want to put a note up here, in case you stop by, but I am still having trouble with my blog and so my daily advent posts aren't loading on the blogrolls until hours later. Today's post hasn't loaded yet and it's almost time for tomorrow's.

Unless something unforeseen happens, I do plan on posting a little Advent something every day until Christmas.

  4. Fun post today Brenda! My boys had sword fights with those empty rolls. Of course, it wasn't long before they were pretty mangled.
Hope you are having a peaceful Advent season. Sorry I have not been around much; I am trying to catch up with all my reading, but you are in my thoughts, even if I'm not always here. Blessings, Deborah

  5. What a fun post... I agree that empty wrapping rolls are just too much fun, and your Christmas poems hilarious... I loved the one about the melting snowball pet, lol! Hope you are having a wonderful day :)

  7. Ah yes, the wrapping paper tubes. My kids would swing them at each other, but the sound of one landing on the head is all too familiar. Another favourite thing is popping the bubbles in bubble wrap ... so satisfying. We used to have a metal 'flying saucer' for a winter ride. I think at one time or another all of my sisters, brother and I got our tongues stuck on it. always ended in tears of course. Love the cute poems :)

  8. Yes, I too am always tempted to bonk someone on the head! Only trouble is it's only Hubby and me now. The boys have moved out. Cute poems; especially the snowball poem. Thanks for the smile.

    Christmas blessings,
    Sandi

  10. This past weekend I was standing in the lineup in the local HomeSense, when I spotted a young fellow (about 7 or 8) at the till with his dad. He had the roll of giftwrap in his hand, and guess what he was doing? Aha ... trying give his dad a bonk on his head. The dad was quite patient (I was happy to see), but I have a feeling that young man might have had plans for bothering his family further when he got home that evening. Espeically if he had any sister. It made me smile as I waited for my turn.
