Blogger's Embedded Comments Feature

Recently the feature 'Embedded Comments' has been made available for all Blogger users.

This allows users to reply from the post, and what I especially like about this is its 'threading' ability. That is to say, if someone leaves a comment, you can reply directly to that comment right underneath, so the conversation on a particular comment stays together... it keep the like-conversation connected.

It's a simple process to put in place:
1.  Go to your Settings.
2.  Select Posts and Comments.
3.  Under Comments Location*, choose EMBEDDED
4.  Ensure the Allow Blog Feed is set to FULL.

*Note: If you click on the wee question mark beside Comments Location, the following comment comes up:  "Embedded will allow users to reply from the post; Full page and Popup window will take them to a new page. Note: Selecting Hide does not delete existing comments. You can show them at any time by selecting another option."

Hope that works for you.  For more info on this, you can check out the the link to Ask the Blogster.

Happy Blogging,
Brenda

  1. Brenda, This "reply" feature only replies in the comment section, right? It doesn't forward the reply to the commenter, does it?

    1. Rebecca, as far as I am aware it doesn't forward the reply on, just connects on this comment page. (Looks like another 'Google-it' opportunity, I see...smile!)

  2. Don't you love this feature, Brenda? It's nice to be able to answer each comment and it feels more like having a conversation.

Love visiting your pretty blog. I always enjoy each post. :o)

    Have a great day,
    Sandra

    1. Yes, I do love it. You know what, I do believe I first saw this on your blog and thought it a wonderful feature!

  3. Well, that sounds like a good new feature! I wonder, as Rebecca mentioned, if the commenter would be notified of your reply - sort of like Facebook?

    1. Jane, I'm commenting here...... let us know if you get this reply in your inbox or not.

    2. Brenda, I got your email about your reply, but I see that it was not a notice of the reply itself. Hmmm, I wonder if they could work on that? This is very interesting - a lovely feature, even better with just a little tweaking!

  4. this is too complex for me today. We are cleaning out our computer room to put new carpeting in tomorrow. Perhaps I'll come back to this post later-thanks.

    1. New carpeting.... I like how bringing in something new into our space seems to create a shift where we find ourselves renewed and reinvigorated in other ways too.

      Will you have pictures?

  6. That was a tortured response. I can do better. I think. Maybe not. It's been one of those days. I did try this, but when I learned that people didn't return to read my response, I went back to receiving comments in my email. That way, I can respond to something IF the blogger has an email connected to their profile.

    1. Now that answer's Rebecca's query above....

Well then... maybe we should tell Blogger to tweek this new feature and include the ability to send any replies to the e-mail address.

I still like replying underneath the individual comment... and if other people come by, they can add to the conversation without it getting so far down the road (especially for those of you who get dozens of comments on any one posting).

  7. I have to echo Vee's comment. How often do people return to the same blog post to see if there is a reply to their comment? I know I don't have time to do that. I do appreciate getting email notifications of replies, though. I need to look into this.

    1. I know I don't usually go back to see if there's a reply.

But... I think I might have discovered something. If you notice when you leave a comment here, in the right corner below, you can subscribe to a follow-up reply to your comment. So it's not automatic, but it's just a simple click to get a reply back in your inbox.

  8. Okay.... I'm playing with this embedded comment feature. With the comment I left above earlier, I chose to click on the link "subscribe by email" (see it just at the bottom on the right side of this box.)

My comment arrived in my e-mail box... and it then gave me a chance to link to a 'reply' and it brought me to this box.

So... it seems if you subscribe by email when you leave a comment, replies will come back to your inbox...

    Clearer or muddier?

  9. Thanks, Brenda,
I need to do this soon.
