Friday SkyWatch

The Red-wing Blackbirds in our area have trained their young families well. Everyday we have a little flock arriving for snacks at the bird feeders. The adult males always announce their arrival when they land in our yard, while the females slip in quieter ... and more shyly.

We sighted a pair of young ones resting in the mountain ash as we were sipping our morning coffee earlier today. As soon as I caught them on camera, they flew off. Just like babies, they know when to pose!

It's a beautiful summery day here in northerly Alberta. The morning calmness has worn off as lawn mowers roar off in the distance and my vacuum cleaner has a small workout closer to home.

Soon it will be time to sip something cool on my lounge chair in the garden with a stack of books.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Brenda

Great catch on the birds before flying into the wild blue yonder.

  8. Those are good birds to have around. When I was in college I'd take long bike rides in the country, and can remember being scolded by red-wings for violating their territory. They'd hover over me, squawking, until I rolled far enough away from their imaginary property line.

  10. What could be better than a sweet, unfettered summer day spent in a hammock with some strawberry lemonade, or iced tea, and a good read?

Sounds like you're spending some guality time with your soul.

Love the picture, by the way. I am becoming more and more entranced with birds lately.

  11. How lovely it all sounds. We have had some lovely days but it seems as though the sun has deserted us for a while - sigh. I just watch the birds from the window! A x
