Friday Five: On Beauty

One

People are like stained-glass windows.
They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in,
their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

Two

Tell them, dear, that if eyes were made for seeing,
Then beauty is its own excuse for being.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Three

Beauty is an ecstasy; it is as simple as hunger.
There is really nothing to be said about it.
It is like the perfume of a rose: you can smell it and that is all.
~ W. Somerset Maugham

Four

Inner beauty, too, needs occasionally to be told it is beautiful.

Five

Beauty is a form of Genius -- is higher, indeed, than Genius, as it needs no explanation.
It is one of the great facts of the world, like sunlight, or springtime,
or the reflection in dark water of that silver shell we call the moon.
~ Oscar Wilde

Smile Bonus

Always remember that true beauty comes from within
-- from within bottles, jars, compacts, and tubes.
~ Peter's Almanac

    1. Lin, What fun to have taken that class.

The stained glass window pic above was taken during our day tour to the Downton Abbey filming sites (last summer). This was from the church where Lady Mary and Lady Edith were married.

  15. Brenda: I love, love this post - absolutely one of my favorites. I have what I call, "my little book of things." It is a little book where I write beautiful thoughts and quotes. I wrote each and every one of these lovely thoughts in, my "little book." Thank you for the beauty and inspiration!
