IT'S THE ODDEST things that make me happy sometimes! Most satisfying too.
At work in the wee hours... by the way... I recently started doing a part-time cleaning job at our local performing arts center. I'm glad it's not cleaning grocery stores or downtown offices...nothing wrong with that, but there's a certain romance in putting to rights messed-up dressing rooms. Maybe there's a feeling of being 'backstage' even though the 'stars' are long gone when hubby and I arrive in the wee hours. We're titled "Housekeeping" which, in my view, sounds a whole lot nicer than custodian...or janitor, don't you think?
So, there Miss Molly and I were vacuuming the large lobby and putting everything to rights.
Mmmm.... seems vacuuming gets rid of a whole lot of debris, not only from the floors and carpets, but from my mind too. Having to get up so early, roused from my toasty snuggery on a wintery night, takes my soul a little adjusting to the task and uncovering the 'beauty' in it.
Sometimes I have to look a little harder than other times... but as I methodically move back and forth, the rhythm soothes my own mind and brings order to the chaos of clutterd thoughts. How often have I gotten inspiration for a new piece to write or figured out what's been fretting me. Amazing, God doesn't seem to mind visiting when I'm vacuuming...often I'll catch the 'still small voice' whispering something inside.... funny, I can hear it above the roar of the cleaner too.
So tell us already....what was the satisfying bit? Oops...we're meandering... why, it's the sound of sand and gravel, stray candies and peanuts, and other whatnot ca-plunking and clattering up the hose. I ask you, what's the use of vacuuming if you can't hear it complaining as it gets whoosed up?
Ooooo...this could be one of those teeny tiny pleasures from my list yesterday.
Well there you have it... more funny things that tickle my fancy. Now on that note, I best be off. We're meeting friends for lunch and then we're going to see Meryl Streep in her latest film, The Iron Lady. Looking forward to the outing.
Wishing you the BEST day.........

Your optimism is so very inspiring. I'm sure I'll smile and think of you as I haul out my vacuum hose:))
ReplyDeleteBlessing to you, my friend.
Janet, I was just thinking of you a little while ago... and here you are! Lovely to see you!
ReplyDeleteGlad to add some smiles to the vacuuming process.... lol
ahh, you just gave me a good reason to wait on vacuuming.....there will be just that much more satisfying "ca-plunking", right?? ;)
ReplyDeleteand i love that God loves to visit us no matter where we are or what we are doing. even a vacuum can't drown him out if we are attuned to his voice....
I really enjoyed your list of pleasures in your last post and could check each one of them off as ones I enjoy too. :o)
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I also clean...er, I mean "housekeep" a couple of offices and it's true, during those times of cleaning it's amazing what God brings to my mind. The same thing happens when I'm gardening or walking.
Thanks for sharing and have a great day!
Love how you can take something, as common-place as the sounds of stuff being vacuumed up... And tie it up, with deep thoughts. :-)

You know...I love that you took on such an interesting job. What a great way to spend time with hubby.
ReplyDeleteHousekeeping is a word that isn't used that much these days.
Good for you and hubby.
That is really a sweet post.I agree cleaning backstage does sound quite novel indeed.... It's not what we're doing that matters as much as how we do it!!Thanks and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeletenice post thanks for sharing...blessings...
ReplyDeleteLove this post...a sweet reminder that beauty is everywhere...even in vacuuming! And thank you for stopping by my blog; it's so nice to "meet" you:)
ReplyDeletewe adore you Brenda... everything you say uplifts us (and amuses). Are you tempted to 'make up' in the dressing room.. try stuff on... etc? I think I might! Love Helen, Darcy and Bingley xxx
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, Brenda. I'm kind of that way, too. Something as simple as lighting a candle, or looking out of my window, or testing out a new fragrance at the department store will always put a smile on my face.
ReplyDeletesomehow I missed this post until todays...
