On Being First

I don't know about you, but there are times when I wish I could be the first at something. As a child, I loved to run and I remember the exhilaration I felt those times when it was me who crossed the finish line first.

There is something energizing about coming in first -- I guess it stems from the desire to be good at something, to be so good in fact that, even if it's just for the moment, you are the best at it.

Now, I haven't been running any races lately, but after finding this thoughtful quote, I realize again there are lots of places and times when I can still experience the exhilaration of coming in first:

Strive to be first:
First to nod,
First to smile,
First to compliment,
And first to forgive.

  8. Many times I am the last to bed at night and first awake in the morning. It feels good to start (and end) the day taking care of your family's needs, no matter the size :) Enjoyed this post, and the comments ~ thanks for sharing!

  9. I was never able to be first to do something in my family. My older sister always got that honor.

I love your idea of firsts. I want to be the first to say something nice about the weather, to give a hug, to say "I love you," to say "I miss you."

Your blogs are just so uplifting. Now I'm going to comment on your Grace blog as you asked us to on Friday.

  10. Hi Brenda, I loved this post. It does feel nice to be first sometimes and to feel like we are winning. Yet, how comforting to know there are other ways of feeling special that don't require physical strength alone. There are many different races out there yet to be run! Delisa :)
